Restaurant Barr has taken over the premises at Strandgade 93 from its big brother, Noma. Barr serves food and drinks inspired by different strains of Scandinavian cuisine as well as influences from Germany, Benelux and the British Isles.
Project overview At Malte Gormsen we’ve been working in close collaboration with the Norwegian architectural design house, Snøhetta, and the team behind the restaurant to establish the essence of Barr. We've sourced solid Danish oak grown in protected, state owned forests north of Copenhagen. The solid oak planks have been shaped and carved in our five axis CNC machine and assembled on the walls and in the gaps between the ceiling beams.
Scope of work The interior and the furniture have been crafted by the cabinetmakers at our workshop (except the round tables and the Finn Juhl chairs). This includes: front desk, waiter statins, cabinets, high table bench top with integrated ice bucket, coffee and wine bar with bar, curved oak elements on the walls and in the gaps between the ceiling beams, custom made bar-stools designed by Rakel Karlsdóttir, high tables and square tables. We have also refinished the floors.
Restaurant 108 is Noma’s latest offspring, located at Christianshavn in Copenhagen.
Project overview 108 serves seasonal food and are collaborating with regional farmers to to fully understand their ingredients and the region. At Malte Gormsen we have worked in close collaboration with the architect, Space Copenhagen, to insure that everything from material to the custom made furniture meet the vision of 108. This includes both the drop-in coffee and wine bar as well as the restaurant, where some of the furniture such as the bar-stools, benches and tables, have been crafted by the cabinetmakers at our workshop.

Shamballa Jewels is a precious Danish jewellery brand inspired by Buddhist philosophy and the ancient traditions of yoga.
Project overview At Malte Gormsen, we started off with with a clean room and concrete walls and handed over a premium turn-key retail space for Shamballa Jewels. The display cabinets are uniquely designed and crafted in collaboration with the architect, Space Copenhagen, with the highest quality to display Shamballa’s jewelry in its true nature.

Aiayu is a sustainable knitwear label based out of Denmark.
Project overview Aiayu wanted raw materials for their flagship store, located in the heat of Copenhagen. At Malte Gormsen we brought to life Space Copenhagen’s concept drawings, creating custom made furniture for a functional and natural retail environment.
Scope of work All wooden furniture including custom made shelving systems, clothing displays etc.

Geranium is a 3-star Michelin restaurant situated on the 8th floor in Fælledparken (Common Gardens) in the center of Copenhagen.
Project overview In close collaboration with Geranium and the architect we created a space emphasizing Geranium's vision of gastronomic clarity and diversity - exploring the area of tension between the urbane and the natural. At Malte Gormsen, we were the main contractor of the whole project delivering a turn-key restaurant, including custom made furniture such as the dining table sofa.

Noma is a 2-star Michelin restaurant that has been awarded The Best Restaurant in the World four times by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Nomas’ location at Strandgade 93 has closed permanently, but the restaurant will relocate to new location in Copenhagen.
Project overview Noma was located at the harbourfront in an old Copenhagen maritime warehouse from 1767. From the start of the project Malte Gormsen worked in close collaboration with Noma and Space Copenhagen to preserve the legacy of the building and at the same time create an unique dining space based on Nordic traditions.

Geist is a restaurant by Bo Bech that has established itself a ‘classic gastronomic eatery’ in Copenhagen.
Project overview Restaurant Geist is a big restaurant with lots of space, although Nordic it has a dark and cosy vibe with polished stone, dark wood and metal wrought. At Malte Gormsen we started of with an empty space and worked closely with the architect to convey the essence of Bo Bech’s desire to create “An eatery where you can relax, unwind and savor the moment”.

Fotografiska is an international meeting place, located in the heart of Stockholm, where everything revolves around photography.
Project overview At Malte Gormsen we were responsible for the interior fitting of the restaurant area. We worked in close collaboration with the architect and the client to create a space that provides a unique experience for the thousands of visitors that come to Fotografiska each year.

Balthazar Champagne Bar
Balthazar is the prestigious Hotel d'Angleterre's Champagne bar, located in the heart of Copenhagen.
Project overview The project spanned over two floors of Denmark’s first Champagne including the bar / restaurant area and a resting area. At Malte Gormsen, we took over an empty space with bare concrete walls and based on the architect’s concept drawings we created the final space. The assignment also included sourcing and custom making the gold mirrors with antique look and feel.

Designers Remix - Illum
Designers Remix is a Scandinavian women's wear fashion brand by the Danish designer Charlotte Eskildsen.
Project overview Architect studio, Space Copenhagen, developed a new store concept design for Designers Remix’ shop in Copenhagen’s premium department store, Illum. Based on their design, we delivered a turnkey solution for the client, including the checkout counter in solid oak, the column dressed in blackened steel and the solid vase in red marble.

The Market is an international restaurant, located in the city center of Copenhagen. The menu consists of dishes from various Asian cuisines.
Project overview The Market has a passion for craftsmanship, not only the food but also the interior. At Malte Gormsen, we created an international restaurant space in close collaboration with the architect, OS&CO. Our responsibility included the full creation of the interior fitting, everything from the custom made cabinets, tables and sofas to the bathrooms and the cocktail bar.

Conditori La Glace is the oldest confectionery in Denmark. Founded in the middle of old Copenhagen on the 8th of October 1870, it has through six generations delivered joy and quality to Copenhagen and its visitors.
Project overview Malte Gormsen was responsible for the whole renovation, including construction. We worked closely with La Glace and and the architect on this project to resemble the original look and feel of La Glace, and to make sure that there was a seamless transition from the old to the new section of the premises.
